There are now 10 free barbecues at Hanging Rock as part of ongoing upgrades at the famous tourist venue.
The reserve’s main toilet block has been improved ahead of what’s shaping up as a busy spring and summer.
Macedon Ranges mayor Jennifer Anderson said the works would make the Rock even more attractive to tourists.
‘‘The new barbecues and improved toilet facilities, coupled with plans to upgrade visitor shelters, car parking and a range of other improvements, will create more opportunities for visitors to enjoy time sightseeing, picnicking and bushwalking,’’ she said.
Cr Anderson said visitor numbers were on the rise, with about 20,000 more tourists than three years ago.
‘‘With school holidays and summer just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy the many experiences on offer so close to home.’’
The barbecues, installed at a cost of $80,000, replaced coin-operated units and can be reserved for groups. Hanging Rock is set to host several major events, including a November 21 concert headlined by rock legends Cold Chisel.
