Baby Guerilla’s latest mural highlights uni links

Prolific Footscray artist Baby Guerrilla explores notions of social connection in her latest giant paste-up for Victoria University.

VU commissioned the renowned street artist to add another giant mural to its Footscray Park Campus, joining last year’s portrayal of an African woman soaring six storeys high on the engineering building facing Ballarat Road.

Unveiled in the building P courtyard on Monday,

Connections is a 15-metre-high work depicting an African woman and a young boy, defying gravity while holding hands.

Baby Guerrilla said her latest paste-up is designed to recognise the inter connectedness of all humanity.

“It shows we all are linked, and have the power to lift each other up and change the world for the better, no matter who we are or what we do,” she said. “It is also designed to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of immigrants to our vibrant and diverse community here in Footscray and Australia.”

Both works form part of Victoria University and Maribyrnong council’s 10-year Footscray University Town project to strengthen support for art, education, sport and innovation.
