Sunbury’s Sarah Medcraft saw the perfect climate for a program inviting people to come together, make some art and drink some wine on a Saturday night.
Sip & Paint is run at the Sunbury Indoor Sports Stadium, inviting locals to book in and learn how to paint with local artist Antoinette Preston, a drink in one hand and a brush in the other.
“I wondered how the indoor stadium could have more than just a sports centre,” Ms Medcraft said.
“We’ve got a bar there, we’ve got golf. There’s so much you can do, that’s when I came up with Sip & Paint.
“There are so many people commenting on it [on Facebook], it’s gotten so much bigger than I was expecting.”
Ms Medcraft is excited – in just a few short weeks the program has become hugely popular and soon there will be live music at the sessions too.
Each month they choose a different painting for attendees to replicate, for $65 participants are supplied with everything they need and a glass of wine. There are only 15 people in each class too so people can ask questions and take the time they need.
“They’re paintings people can actually put up and use,” she said.
Ms Medcraft said she and Ms Preston were “as excited as each other” to get the program up and running.
“I came into this job [the the indoor sports stadium] and I had ideas, I had Sip & Paint in my mind. I didn’t expect it to grow as much.”
