New Gisborne resident Fiona Farrugia has offered up her painting skills to the community.
With lockdown restrictions derailing many people’s travel plans, Farrugia is willing to paint any landscape upon request, and only asks you to cover the cost of shipping.
Drawing on expertise from running her own art business, Farrugia said she wanted to do something to help people feel connected in a time of isolation.
“I just feel there’s a real lull in the community at the moment,” Farrugia said.
“People have memories of their favourite places or maybe they’re missing their hometowns. I just wanted to do something that would spread some cheer.”
Since posting her offer online, Farrugia has received requests to paint the York Peninsula in South Australia, a castle in Wales and Hanging Rock.
Farrugia said she rediscovered her own love for landscape artwork in 2018, when she wanted to paint something to hang in her home.
“For me painting is a way to express myself,” she said.
“I realised that I love to paint landscapes specifically, I find there is so much meaning in being able to paint places I have been and that are special to me. I love being in nature, at the beach or surrounded by trees.”
Farrugia’s paintings are on display at Art on Piper in Kyneton.
