Macedon Labor MP Mary-Anne Thomas has announced $28,000 grant for horse rescue training in Lancefield.

Lancefield Equestrian Group will buy large animal rescue equipment and a 15-hand high horse mannequin from England to train emergency service workers, vets, RSPCA inspectors and others to rescue trapped horses safely.

Group president Roger Levell said orders had already been placed.

‘‘Horses can be a challenge to handle, especially when they find themselves in unexpected places,’’ he said.

‘‘The large animal training is as much about human safety as it is about extracting horses from their predicament.’’

Woodend-based animal rescue organisation Pets Haven received $50,000 to save and re-home dogs and cats on death row.
