Amnesty on library fines

Macedon Ranges library customers will be able to return overdue items in December and have all fines cleared as part of a fine amnesty.

The amnesty applies to Goldfield Libraries including Gisborne, Romsey, Woodend and Kyneton libraries.

Goldfields Libraries collection manager Clare Brown said customers would be able to start borrowing again once the fines were cleared.

“We understand that life gets busy and we forget to return items sometimes but we don’t want that to stop you from enjoying your local library,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter whether your item is two days overdue or two years overdue. Return it to your local library and no fines will be applied.”

The amnesty also applies to previously accrued fines. Patrons should visit their nearest library and ask a staff member to have them cleared.

The amnesty is also expected to fill any gaps in the library’s collection due to ‘lost’ items.

“We currently have a large number of overdue or lost items across the region,” Ms Brown said.

“By removing fines on these items we hope to have them returned to the collection for others to enjoy.”

The fines amnesty is on now and will end on Thursday, January 2.
