Emerging young producers and directors hit the red carpet this week at Sunbury College’s inaugural film festival.
College students, as well as others from Diggers Rest and Sunbury primary schools, have been scripting, casting, filming and editing their own films after school for the past six months.
The final cuts of more than 20 entries will be shown on the big screen this Thursday at the event, which will channel all the glitz and glamour of a Cannes or Hollywood premiere.
Youth engagement worker Byrona Tweedy and media teacher Tess Abbott said the aim was to get young people thinking about a future in the film industry.
“Most of the students who participated in the film festival were already interested in film and media,” Ms Tweedy said. “It’s nice to give them the opportunity to take the initiative and to participate in something that hasn’t been available at the college before.
“We wanted to replicate the real film festivals as much as we could. I’m quite impressed with the entries that I’ve seen so far.”
All the films are comedies, and include the line: “What are you doing?”. They all also use a banana as a prop.
The red carpet will be rolled out from 6.30-8pm. Tickets at the college.
