Geelong star Georgie Prespakis joined seven others in camping overnight earlier this week to secure her dream house lot in Sunbury.

The first release of Kimberley estate lots were snapped up with 20 sales made throughout the week.

Ms Prespakis, who grew up in Sunbury, said she was keen to get one of the blocks and believes Sunbury flies under the radar.

“I thought I’ll put my best foot forward and try and get [a lot],” she said. “It’s got a regional feel, however, you’re really close to the city and it’s growing rapidly.”

“It’s a real good area, just away from everything.”

Ms Prespakis stayed overnight to make sure she could secure a lot.

“I got here at 8pm and stayed overnight. It was a very long night but now I’m feeling over the moon about it, I’m really happy.”

This is the third project Villawood Properties has opened in Sunbury. With 2500 lots available, the estate overlooks Sunbury township, the Emu Bottom nature reserve and Macedon Ranges.

Villawood chief executive Alan Miller said there were over 2000 interested buyers.

“This sort of response – people camping out overnight to guarantee they can buy at Kimberley – is something we haven’t seen for at least two years. It’s really bucking the trend,” he said.

Mr Miller said Sunbury was key to shaping Melbourne’s growth corridors, with strong transport links and easy access to the CBD, while still keeping residents connected to nature.

“The location is semi-rural, the elevated ridgetop landscape is something out of a travel magazine,” he said.

“There are lots to suit every budget, loads of sustainable features and as always, we’ll be giving a block of land to state forest for every lot we sell.”
