The latest Kyneton Museum exhibition is set to pull at the heartstrings of Jane Austen era admirers.
Be Persuaded: A Jane Austen Experience, opening on April 7, will showcase rare fashion, accessories and ephemera from the 18th century up to the 1840s. It includes pieces such as a silk gown, boots, bonnets and parasols.
Macedon Ranges arts and culture co-ordinator Robyn Till said the exhibition would explore how “fashion tells a story”.
“Aren’t we all romantics at heart?” Ms Till asked. “The exhibition will celebrate all things pretty and delicate of that era. It’s one of my favourites.”
She said the collection belonged to a local couple who are private collectors of textiles involved in the Dressing Australia Museum of Costume.
“Some of the items are extremely rare including one of the items on display, of which there are only two in existence,” Ms Till said.
“All of those dresses and bonnets will give a sense of that Regency period.”
