The opening of Macedon and Mount Macedon Community (MMMCH) House last week symbolised the beginning of a new, exciting chapter.
On Tuesday, November 15, the community gathered at the Victoria Street facility in Macedon to celebrate the opening of the former maternal and child health facility and kindergarten building, recently upgraded for use.
It’s been a long journey – a collaboration with Macedon Ranges council with fundraising support from locals saw the final vision come to fruition.
MMMCH committee of management vice president Karen Goltz said it was a great day, featuring a smoking ceremony, speeches and live entertainment.
“There was a great deal of excitement and anticipation – people that were there were interested in what’s going to occur in the house,” she said.
“One of the important things about the event was to acknowledge all the local organisations, businesses and individuals who had donated to the building renewable project, which occurred from 2020-21.
“The people who donated to that campaign were honoured, we hung an honour board [on the day].”
In creating a space that contributes to the development of social, cultural and economic capital, promoting wellbeing, the facility will cater for everyone.
Ms Goltz said the MMMCH was a reflection of community spirit, and all the support the initiative has.
“A number of people have said that the renovation of the building and the commencement of the operations [at the] community house has given Macedon a heart,” she said.
