A day in Parliament for Lancefield’s Chloe Hansen

She may be only 12 years old but Lancefield’s Chloe Hansen is off to participate in a parliamentary sitting alongside members of Parliament.

Chloe is the recipient of the 2017 MP for a Day award from local youth group The Field Trip and Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas.

Chloe said she was eagerly awaiting her day in the shoes of a member of Parliament.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do ever since I heard about it,” she said.

“I’m really interested in getting an insight into how it all works.”

Learning about politics and leadership is just one of Chloe’s many interests – she also enjoys reading, writing, performing on stage, football, tennis and swimming.

Chloe has been involved with weekly youth movement The Field Trip since it started up in Riddells Creek in 2015.

Through this group she has produced podcasts for radio, built a cubby house at the Woodend Men’s Shed for charity, had some of her work published in a book, helped run a weekend retreat for senior citizens and produced her own Youtube channel YouFood, sharing clips about healthy eating.

Chloe said she enjoyed discovering her potential across different fields.

“I’m learning that the world around me doesn’t just have one path set out for me – but many.”
