Woodend’s Angus, 3 (pictured), was among the many youngsters who welcomed the chance to run and play after snow blanketed the Macedon Ranges on Wednesday.
Chilly weather on Tuesday led to small falls in areas including Mount Macedon, Macedon, Kerrie, Trentham and Woodend.
But freezing conditions overnight meant a thick layer of white stuff greeted residents from a large number of towns, including Romsey and Lancefield, on Wednesday.
Roads to ever popular Mount Macedon were blocked off from early in the day, with conditions too slippery even for four-wheel drives.
Luke Chapman, from Top of the Range Tea Rooms, said some people were braving the cold for a one-hour walk up Cameron Drive to the memorial cross and lookout.
“We certainly haven’t seen it like this for some years,” he said.
“It’s a shame that the road had to be closed, because there is so much snow about. We’ve had at least 4cm.”
