Thousands of people are expected to gather in the Macedon Ranges to commemorate Remembrance Day.
A Remembrance service to celebrate the Armistice of World War I will be held on Monday, November 11 at the Woodend RSL sub-branch at 32 Anslow Street.
In the lead-up to the day, Woodend RSL members will be selling poppies throughout the town as part of this year’s Poppy Appeal.
Woodend RSL president Peter Whitelaw is calling on the community to support the appeal.
“By purchasing a poppy, you are not only remembering those who have served in the past, but you are also helping to support those who are still serving today,” he said.
“The proceeds from the sale of every poppy goes towards supporting service men, women and their families in times of need.”
RSL Victoria president Robert Webster said the money went a long way to supporting past and present veterans.
“The funds raised by the sale of a single $10 Poppy Appeal pin may go towards the purchase of a mobility scooter for an elderly veteran, pay for a young veteran’s crisis accommodation and support health and wellbeing programs for veterans throughout Victoria,” he said.
“You should feel proud when you wear the red poppy, as your donation will have helped to change a veteran’s life.”
Poppy Appeal merchandise can be purchased at the Woodend RSL sub-branch, Woodend Coles and Woodend railway station.
