Sunbury Community Health provides a range of services that respond to the needs of Sunbury and surrounding communities.
This cherished not-for-profit community health organisation is offering all the help people may need with navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Sunbury Community Health engagement officer Chris Kulas answers some frequently asked questions:
What is the NDIS?
NDIS is the new way of helping Australians with a significant and lifelong disability, as well as their families and carers. People who already receive support because they have a disability can probably join the NDIS (they will need to meet access requirements). Children who are part of a Victorian State funded Department of Education and Training Early Intervention service will be able to access the NDIS. When you join, you will meet with a planner to talk about your goals and support needs. These will be written in a plan for you, which will include amounts of money to use on services.
How can Sunbury Community Health help?
If you or someone you know is living with a disability, we have many different services to make your day-to-day life easier, support your health and wellbeing and help you join in social and community activities. We are a registered NDIS provider. This means we are one place you can choose to go for services using money in your NDIS plan. We can help people if they need assistance when applying for eligibility to enter the scheme.
What does SCH do for children?
Any child, any concern – we listen. We have a team of experienced child development professionals, including speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. We also have audiology, social skills groups and an autism-friendly children’s dental service, along with A PlayConnect Playgroup, a music therapy group and more. If you are worried about your child’s development, get in touch. No problem is too big or too small; we take the time to talk to you every step of the way and are here to help your WHOLE family.
What does SCH have for youth and adults?
We have different therapies, as well as social and group activities to support young people and adults with a disability to reach their goals.
These include occupational therapy, physiotherapy, group exercise, supported social groups and our inclusive performing arts program, known as BoilOver.
Chris says: “We are a collaborative team of professionals in one place and are here to help. We are local and we know Sunbury.
