IN FOCUS: Alchemist mixes up a winning formula

As a working artist and with years of experience in the framing trade, Bonnie Hanlon, owner of The Alchemist Artists Supply Store in Sunbury, knows a thing or two about presenting artwork with finesse and technical skill, as well as all things art supplies.

A stickler for quality, Bonnie offers custom archival picture framing with museum quality in contemporary styles, yet at affordable prices.

“We believe that both the presentation of an artwork and its preservation are equally important,” she explains. “Our 10 years in archival framing methods guarantees we take great care in framing artworks, photographs, documents, objects and memorabilia.

“In store, we strive to support artists in their exploration, understanding and mastery of their medium by providing in-depth product information, technical advice, access to resources and the highest quality materials for picture framing.

“We offer custom canvas stretching and picture framing, using archival acid-free processes and materials. We use 100 per cent rag cotton, and museum-grade matt boards which are acid free and Ph neutral, as well as a range of quality glazing options.

“We have a beautiful selection of timber, veneer, gilded, micro-gesso and aluminium frames, many of which are milled and manufactured in Melbourne.

“Our quotes are obligation free and our ‘health check’ service can assess the condition of existing frames and replace or repair any component needing attention.”

Bonnie, who loves working with her hands, believes her understanding of materials and methods delivers a higher quality than is likely to be found at a generalist picture framer.

“I treat everything I frame as though it’s priceless – because to the person wanting framing, it is. My philosophy is that superior products yield superior results so everything I have in store is guided by best quality – yet it remains affordable. And I’m able to select my stock carefully, based on research and my own experience.

“I love the look on my clients’ faces when they come to collect their framed works and see that our work has exceeded their expectations.”

In stock are supplies from leading Australian and overseas manufacturers, such as Langridge Artist Colours, Golden Artist Colours, Sennelier, Schmincke, Palomino, Prismacolor and many more.

The Little Thinker range of plush toys and finger puppets representing Warhol, Kahlo, Monet and Van Gogh are perfect for little artists, and an exclusive range of mugs, badges and greeting cards for ‘big artists’.
