Show pays tribute to Anzacs

Sunbury residents need to act quickly if they want to be there when a locally-written musical theatre production paying tribute to the Anzacs makes its home debut.

Created in the lead-up to last year’s Gallipoli centenary, Sunbury Choral Association’s We Will Remember Them garnered rave reviews for two shows staged in Melton in March 2015.

The production’s story, costumes, decor and foyer displays proved so popular that Melton council commissioned an extra performance, which was held in April last year.

The show’s popularity has followed it home, with tickets for a matinee show at Sunbury’s Boilerhouse Theatre this Saturday selling out soon after going on sale.

Choral group spokeswoman Deb Poulter-Sweeney says the show, which takes audiences on a musical journey through various stages of war, is packed with emotion.

‘‘There’s elation, there’s devastation … there’s a bit of laughter, as well,’’ she says.

We Will Remember Them features a mix of whole-choir and small-group numbers and solo pieces, poems and sketches.

Action takes place on two stages – the main stage showing what is happening at war and a mezzanine telling the story of those at home.

Costumes and decor reflect the World War I theme, while audience refreshments are provided through individual rations handed out at interval.

Limited tickets remain available for sessions at 7.30pm this Saturday night and 2pm on Sunday. Tickets cost $20; concession $15. Bookings essential. Click here for more details.
