Festival takes sustainability to the streets

Dozens of street artists were hard at work at Woodend’s Black Forest Timber Mill on Saturday, sharing a vast array of works as part of this year’s Macedon Ranges Sustainable Living Festival.

The centrepiece of the exhibition was a co-operative mural created with sugar-based paints on a giant, upcycled plywood canvas.

Energy and Resources Minister Lily D’Ambrosio also unveiled a 30kW community solar energy plant at the mill.

Other highlights of the festival included a food and garden exhibition and design and technology expo, both in Forest Street.

Live music and old-fashioned games were part of a family picnic held at Woodend Children’s Park on Sunday.

The event, designed to encourage interest in sustainable lifestyles, also included forums, workshops and an electric car display.
