Out with the old on the Garage Sale Trail

Gisborne resident Kate De Marco has signed up for the Garage Sale Trail along with thousands of residents eager to clear out their clutter for spring.

The national Garage Sale Trail, now in its sixth year, encourages people to participate in one big day of garage sales on Saturday, October 22.

Hume and Macedon Ranges councils are among 150 councils that participate by encouraging recycling, sustainable living practices and waste minimisation.

Ms De Marco says she’s selling her excess stuff so she can fund a vegetable garden and some chooks in an effort to become more self-sufficient.

“I’m a single mum on a low income who is living in Gisborne, so I could use the extra cash,” she said.

“I love a good garage sale – I’ve done them for years on the Garage Sale Trail and I just love participating in a community initiative.

“Because I only moved to the area eight months ago, it’s an opportunity for me to meet more of my neighbours and have a chat.”

Ms De Marco says she and her four-year-old son, Zaimeri, will be selling home-made cordial and cakes as well as other “crazy bits and bobs”.
