Lancefield young people will be among those published as part of a new statewide literacy and leadership initiative.
The Where I Live book will include the poems, journal entries, drawings and artworks from Victorian young people aged 10 to 24, including those in the Lancefield chapter of The Field Trip youth leadership program.
Their contributions will express their thoughts about their identities, what home means to them, respect, community and the world around them.
Project designer Rhiannon Haworth said the book would encompass The Field Trip’s philosophy that everyone is equal regardless of age or status.
She said the book would enable participants to improve the world around them, encourage artistic ideas and develop new ways of thinking and doing – and empower them to be social change-makers of the future.
“Is there any achievement better than seeing your feelings, drawings, creations and thoughts in-between the covers of a book?” Ms Haworth asked.
“The project shows our participants that anything is achievable when you put your minds to the task and work as a team.
“The Field Trip aims to empower young people to find their passion, peers and path, in order to create a positive, sustainable legacy for their local and global community.”
