Dynamic works created with molten beeswax will be on show as part of an exhibition in Mount Macedon this month.

A small band of Woodend Arts Group members, who have dubbed themselves The Honeybees, will display an eclectic collection of pieces as part of Mind Your Own Beeswax.

Artist Diane Fitt, who discovered the style known as ‘encaustics’ on Pinterest, says the use of the unique method has resulted in some spectacular paintings.

‘‘There are five artists and we’re all learning, but we’ve gone down some quite different paths,’’ she says. ‘‘There’s a lot of variation in style. Encaustic works can be very strong and bold … it’s a fascinating way to do it. ’’

Ms Fitt says the practice goes back to ancient times.

‘‘A lot of mummies were preserved with the encaustic method,’’ she said.

The exhibition will be officially opened at 2pm on Saturday and continues from 10am-4pm, Fridays to Tuesdays, at The Gallery, 684 Mount Macedon Road.
