Bacteria’s good and bad rap

A local mum with an interest in sustainable living will share the science behind good and bad bacteria in your gut during a free workshop at Sunbury library.

Amanda Woods (pictured), a former scientist and information technology consultant, will give a pickles, preserves and probiotics talk from 6pm on August 12.

Ms Woods says participants will discover the health benefits of several probiotics, and learn about kefir, kombucha, yoghurt and other live-culture foods.

She will also explain preserving techniques and show people how to include ‘live foods’ in their cooking.

There will also be a chance to taste fermented foods from around the world. The event is part of Hume council’s Enviro Champions program.
