Art campaign a success

Students, staff and parents have celebrated the end of a long campaign to rebuild New Gisborne Primary School’s art room, which was gutted by fire six years ago.

The school community’s marathon campaign for a replacement building began after the fire in June 2011 until funding was finally secured in the 2015 state budget.

Works finally began on the $772,000 art space redevelopment in September last year.

At the  re-opening, Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas acknowledged the campaign, led by parents of the school, to ensure their children had the creative arts facilities they believe they deserve.

“This is not just an art room, this is a success story of a government listening to a grassroots community campaign, led by parents to ensure their kids were not overlooked,” Ms Thomas said.

“After four years of inaction under the previous government, New Gisborne Primary School has finally had its much-loved art room replaced.”

“The staff, leadership and learning opportunities at New Gisborne Primary School are first-class, and I am proud to say that now the school will have art facilities to match.”
