Hitting the heights: 8 Drovers Retreat, Romsey

Perched on a gentle rise affording it uplifting views over the township and distant hills, this Victoriana tribute sprawls across its corner block of about 1670 square metres. It puts on an eye-catching show in the process.

This great family home could also be brilliant for people who spend part of their year travelling. While the front garden is a lovely mix (and once-a-year chore) of formal box hedging and roses, there’s little to do elsewhere – and there are side gates to a perfect parking spot for a caravan when “in residence”.

Entry to the house is under a verandah into a wide hall where top-notch vinyl floorboards give way to creamy-beige carpet in the lounge-dining room to the left. In here, lace dresses bay and sash windows, a consistent twosome in most rooms.

The floorboards reappear in the large living hub, which has a pair of bay windows and a slider to a big pergola, at one end of which is a dog run. At the other end, head past dense pittosporum plantings screening the back fence to a side yard (caravan parking area) and upper lawn terrace with fruit trees and garden shed.

Back inside, the roomy kitchen has timber cabinets galore (leadlight panes in uppers), an island bench atop stacks of drawers with brass pulls, a corner pantry, a near-new dishwasher, St George electric oven and cooktop.

Off the entry hall, the main bedroom has a bay window, walk-in wardrobe and an en suite with terracotta-toned tiling and a timber vanity. Three more fitted bedrooms range down a second hallway, one they share with the large main bathroom with clawfoot tub and dual vanity basins.

This impressive property also has ducted heating, a split-system and remote-controlled double garage with internal access, shelving and plenty of storage cupboards.
