It’s been a positive off‐season for Sunbury Kangaroos ahead of the Riddell District Netball League season.
After struggling to get players and a coach this time last year, the Kangaroos believe they are set to climb the ladder in 2016.
The club’s netball coordinator, Val Engellenner, said A‐grade defender Tayla Green would coach this year.
“One of the other girls from last season put her hand up but then moved away,” Engellenner said.
“Tayla then said she was happy to coach if we couldn’t find anyone else. We ended up asking her and she said yes.
“I don’t think she has coached before but she plays in a metro team at Parkville and has good
coaches there and she’s picked things up from them.”
As well settling on a coach, the Kangaroos have added half a dozen new players, with three set to play in the A‐grade team.
“It’s all guns blazing and we’re back on the training track,” Engellenner said.
“We’ve had a couple of trial matches to work out who will be in which team and what position they’ll play.
“A few girlfriends of the footy players have decided to play.”
After having an exemption last year to move players between grades, the sides will be more settled this year.
Engellenner said the club was confident of improvement on the court this year.
“The B‐grade side were close to finals last year and have a couple of additions,” she said,
“There will be improvement in the A‐grade team. It’s all looking positive.”
The Kangaroos kick off their season against Romsey on April 16.
