Sunbury maintained its spot on top of the ladder with a convincing win over Glenroy in Bowls Victoria’s division 2 section 2 pennant.
Despite missing two of its normal skippers, Sunbury won 95(18) – 57(0) over a side that’s looking for a finals spot.
Brad Janner’s rink won 30-15; the Mark Cowan-led rink smashed their opposition 25-9; Deeon Dean’s rink won 19-15; and Brad Willoughby’s rink won 21-18.
Sunbury’s Dave Glennon said it was a strength of the side this season that players could step up when needed.
“The people who are deputising are doing the job well and making it hard to choose skippers.
“Deeon’s rink came from behind, as did Brad Willoughby’s, after slow starts.
“Carla Krizanic [nee Odgers] will be back this week and Elise Cowan the week after.”
Glennon said that despite sitting on top of the ladder, the side had to keep on winning.
Sunbury sits nine points clear of Fitzroy Victoria (2) and a further 10 points ahead of West Coburg.
“We’re where we would like to be at the moment,” Glennon said.
“It’s still pretty tight at the top of the ladder, with six games to go.
“Having 18-0 wins like we did on the weekend comes in handy.”
Sunbury will face bottom side Moonee Valley (2) this week.
Meanwhile, Sunbury’s second side lost to Keilor (2), 88 (16) – 74(2).
