Riddell takes a tumble

Riddell’s unbeaten start to the season in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup has ended.

Needing 183 against Romsey, Riddell pulled up well short of victory.

Romsey’s bowlers did the job early on, putting Riddell on the back foot with the wickets of Michael Treweek and Brendan Alger.

From 2-1, Riddell set about a recovery mission with five of the next six batsmen all making starts. But Romsey continued to strike regularly, denying partnerships of substance.

Once Hayden Ross was out for 32, the tail crumbled, Riddell losing its last three wickets for two runs. Jamie Taylor was the pick of the bowlers with 4-25.

Romsey finished its second innings at 3-66.

The win moves Romsey to third on the ladder, while Riddell has slipped to second.

Diggers Rest Bulla jumped to the top of the tree with victory against Bacchus Marsh.

Having made 260 on day one, the Burras restricted Bacchus Marsh to 171. Burras playing coach Kevin Barker took 4-46, backing up his 42 on the first day.

Sunbury United barely got over the line against cross-town rival Sunbury. Needing 146 for victory, United made the runs for the loss of seven wickets.

Lance Watts top scored with 37 at the top of the order, while Heath Boffey took four wickets for Sunbury.

Woodend beat Gisborne comfortably at Gilbert Gordon Oval.
