A convincing win has ensured Sunbury remains on top of the Bowls Victoria division 2, section 2 ladder.
Playing Yarraville-Footscray (3) on Saturday, Sunbury won three rinks on the way to an important 84 (16) – 60 (2) away victory.
Sunbury’s Dave Glennon said it was the rink led by Brad Janner that was the stand-out.
Jenner was skipper in place of Carla Odgers, who was absent because of Australian squad commitments.
“As far as I can tell it was Brad’s first time skippering a rink for the top side,” Glennon said.
“The whole rink of Janner, Marc Bullows, Peter White and Judy Stainton played well, winning their rink 29-11.”
“It was good to give someone else a chance to skipper … it gives us someone else to go to if players are away.”
Jenner is likely to get a second shot at skipping, with Odgers set to miss again this weekend.
Mark Cowan’s rink won 22-13, Elise Cowan’s rink won 20-18 and Deeon Dean’s rink lost 18-13.
“To win 16-2 will come in handy towards the pointy end of the season,” Glennon said.
Sunbury is three points clear of West Coburg on top of the ladder.
Sunbury’s second team defeated Strathmore 98 (16) – 67 (2). Sunbury is seventh in division 3, section 2.
