Gisborne’s unbeaten run has continued with a close win against Eaglehawk in the Bendigo Football League on Saturday. After a slow start the Bulldogs took the lead at half-time and extended it to 32-points going into the final quarter. Eaglehawk kicked five goals in the final term but it wasn’t enough, the Bulldogs winning by 16-points, 12.14 (86) to 10.10 (70). The Bulldogs had four players kick two goals each, with Timothy Walsh best on ground. Kyneton, who had won its past two games, was brought back to earth losing to Strathfieldsaye by 135-points, 24.18 (162) to 5.7 (37). The Tigers had five individual goal kickers, with Ryan Carafa the best for the losers.

MCDFL

Royal Park ran over the top of Trentham in the second half of its clash in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League on Saturday night, winning by 24-points, 16.11 (107) to 12.11 (83). There was only five points difference at half-time. Royal Park kicked six goals to two in the third quarter. In the final term, Trentham had an extra five scoring shots but couldn’t reduce the margin. Mark Strickland kicked three for Trentham, with Scott Witmitz named the side’s best player.

EDFL

East Sunbury was unable to break its losing streak, going down to Moonee Valley in the Essendon District Football League division 2. After scoring one goal last week the Thunder put in a better performance this round, but still lost by 82 points, 20.10 (130) to 7.6 (48). Moonee Valley was in control from the first quarter, kicking seven goals to three in the opening term. Both teams only kicked two goals each in the second quarter, before Moonee Valley kicked 11 goals to seven in the second half. James Wakeling kicked three for the Thunder. Aaron Aquilina was Thunder’s best player.

FFV

Sunbury United lost 1-0 to Preston Lions at B.T Connor Reserve on Saturday in the FFV State League 1 north-west division. Scores were level at half-time, before the Lions scored the only goal of the game in the second half. The loss puts United in seventh place on the ladder. This week it takes on Western Suburbs at home. In state league 5 west, Kyneton put on a clinical display with a 9-0 win against Melbourne Lions. Mark Bitmead hit the back of the net five times for Kyneton with Benjamin Plant scoring two goals.
