My Place

Georgia Tacey caught up with Rotary Club of Sunbury member and past district governor Terry Grant to hear more about the club, and his involvement in town.

What’s your connection to Sunbury?

I find Sunbury a lovely peaceful hamlet where we both live and run a family business.

How long have you lived in the area for?

My wife Gayle and I settled in Sunbury 47 years ago and find it a wonderful place to raise a family. We now have three sons and six beautiful grandchildren.

What do you like about where you live?

The theme when we moved here was City Living – Country Style and that is still mostly the case.

Is there anything you’d change or like to see in Sunbury?

Maybe a few more activities for the kids in town but otherwise I think we are pretty balanced lifestyle wise.

Where’s your favourite local place to spend time?

The Nook – that has always been a lovely sanctuary in this busy town – very peaceful and relaxing either just sitting there or doing the walks around Jacksons Creek.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

That I am generally a pretty quiet guy who adores his family.

Tell us a bit about your role at Rotary Club of Sunbury and what you enjoy most about it.

Rotary has been a great avenue for folk to channel some of their energies into helping those less fortunate – both locally and internationally. Sunbury Rotary celebrates 53 years of service to the community. Unfortunately most folk think all we do is sausages at Bunnings; which is good for us to raise funds for special causes. Our Lift The Lid Walk on 28 February has all proceeds being directed to not for profit group Australian Rotary Health for research into mental health and specifically family violence. All are welcome.

What’s happening this year with the Rotary Club of Sunbury? Is there anything you’d like to highlight?

This year we are raising funds for the bushfires in our region through some special events and Bunnings as well as funds for youth to do a program – this will be via a car show to be held at Clarke Oval on 29 March. We are always looking for new folk interested so contact via the above web or pop into the Ballcourt Hotel every second Tuesday at 7pm. Call me if interested on 0412 111 499.
