Christine Walker may soon be memorialised in Mount Macedon.
The councillor, who died suddenly on 1 August, 2025, could have a footbridge named in her honour.
Macedon Ranges council is seeking to rename the footbridge over Willimigongon Creek on Clarke Street in Mount Macedon to the Christine Walker Footbridge.
The footbridge, currently called the Clarke Street Footbridge, was replaced in late August 2025, and was a project Christine had advocated for during her time as a councillor.
Council said renaming this bridge is a respectful way to further acknowledge her contribution and celebrate her community life in recognition with one of her passions.
Council said it has also sought permission and support from the Walker family for council to proceed with a submission to Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) following the community consultation process.
Council said it has already sought and had approval for an exemption of this proposal under the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria, as the usual requirement is to wait two years after a person’s death before commemorative naming can be applied for.
The Macedon Ranges community is invited to have its say now on the naming of the bridge, and if the registrar approves the proposal, it will be gazetted and registered.
Council officers would then arrange the installation of the relevant signage and inform the community of the decision.
Residents can have their say now until Tuesday 10 March. Council said feedback would be considered in March.
