Youth Myki design unveiled

The winning design of the new youth Myki cards that will hit the network next year were unveiled.

The winner of the design competition was 11-year-old Charlie Bindokas – with his artwork set to feature on over a million new youth Myki cards.

The competition drew more than 6600 entries from young Victorians and a panel shortlisted the top designs, with the winner selected by Premier Jacinta Allan and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Gabrielle Williams.

Bright and bold, Charlie’s design showcases a V/Line train, a Metro train, tram and bus.

In addition to having his design being used, Charlie will receive a $1000 gift card for winning the state-wide design competition and in recognition of his time and effort.

Ms Williams said Charlie “is our very own ‘Myki-angelo’“.

“While there can only be one winner, the creativity on show from across the state was amazing to see, and everyone who took part in the competition should be very proud of their achievements,“ Ms Williams said.

“His design will travel in the pockets of a million young Victorians … The Youth Myki was announced as part of this year’s state budget.

A yearly student pass currently costs $755, but from next year, children aged under 18 can travel for free.

Youth Myki cards are set to cost $5.
