Students and staff at St Mary’s Primary School in Lancefield embraced reading for Children’s Book Week.
The school marked the week on Friday, August 22, where the students and staff came dressed as their favourite book characters for a whole school parade.
Families joined in on the fun too, coming to the school to see their children parade around the school.
The school said this year students from each class got to choose the song they would walk the parade to, which was a big success and great fun for the students.
The staff and year 6 students also surprised the rest of the school with a flash mob to Nutbush halfway through the parade, which was a big hit.
For the parade, students and staff dressed up from their favourite books and beyond, with Disney princesses, witches, wiggles, and wizards making their way down the parade.
Throughout the rest of the day, students continued to celebrate Children’s Book Week with activities related to all things books, in a fun conclusion for the week.
Children’s Book Week, celebrated annually across Australia, celebrates and highlights the importance of children’s literature.
This year’s theme was Book an Adventure, with students participating in a range of activities including book readings, trivia, and more before dressing up for the parade.
