Play on, Sunbury

Lawson Street Reserve has received a much-needed refresh.

Works on the Sunbury park were completed in July, with the community already benefiting from the new park.

The works were part of Hume council’s Park Renewal and Upgrade Program, which guides council in improving open park spaces within the municipality.

The project cost a total of $335,000.

New play equipment was installed including a multi-age combination unit, swing set, two seat rocker and a mini car for kids to play on.

Across the reserve, paths, connections and landscaping have been improved, and new sitting areas have been installed with a new park bench seat, picnic setting and an undercover shelter for families to meet and enjoy at.

Mayor Jarrod Bell welcomed the new space for Sunbury.

“The revamped Lawson Street Reserve is accessible and inclusive, and provides free recreation in a safe environment in the heart of Sunbury where we know people of all ages will be able to enjoy it,” he said.

“As we put the priorities of our new council plan into action, upgrading our reserves and public parks is essential to achieving our goal of creating a strong sense of belonging for Hume residents by providing spaces they can enjoy and be proud of.”

Council said the previous space at Lawson Street Reserve was in need of a refresh, with this project an important upgrade in providing a safe and inclusive play space for the Sunbury community.
