Bag it up for a cause

Bulla CFA is calling out for donations for its food drive.

Community engagement and events co-ordinator Lieutenant Anne Greelish said the station is doing the drive for the second year in a row, with all donations going towards Foodbank Victoria.

Donations can be food items like canned goods, cereals, pasta, rice, long-life milk or juice, coffee and tea, as well as personal hygiene products like soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes and feminine hygiene products.

Bulla CFA joined the drive for the first time last year, smashing its expectations.

“I think in just under a week of reaching out to the community, both our area and Sunbury we managed to get donations of 51 grocery bags full of products that we then donated to foodbanks,” Ms Greelish said.

“We’re hoping to exceed what we completed last year so I’m hoping for 60 bags this year … I just think it’s something really important (we can do) to help.”

Donations can be dropped off outside the station, with a bin available for the community to leave the goods in.

However, for people who prefer to hand it off in person, the station updates its Facebook page to advise the community when volunteers will be there to receive donations, and welcomes chats from the community.

Donations can be dropped off until 11am Saturday, August 16.

“It is something we can do as a brigade to give back just that little bit more,” Ms Greelish said.
