Race to the Mountview Theatre for new show

Over three weekends, a beloved Australian play will be making its way to Macedon.

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race, an uplifting and big-hearted comedy about equality, community and shaking things up in the country will be showing over three weeks at the Mountview Theatre.

Written by Melanie Tait, the play follows Penny Anderson, the town’s new GP who returns to her childhood home of Appleton and is shocked to find the local potato race prize still sits at $1000 for men and just $200 for women.

Determined to change this outdated tradition, she sets out on a mission to even the playing field, but not everyone is quite on board.

Director Mark Constable said the show promises an all-star cast with a mix of local and national talent.

“It’s a wonderful cast, all at the top of their games with years and years of experience and all doing it because they love the play,” he said.

“Rehearsals are a scream and we are having a ball. We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Macedon Ranges locals Sophie Cleary and Sharni Page have joined renowned Australian actors Shayne Francis, Sheila Kumar and industry legend Margot Knight.

“The show has been a smash hit across Australia and it’s such a coup to be able to bring it to our home town up here in the Macedon Ranges,” Constable said.

“It’s also the debut for our wee local company Constable Productions, so it’s a very exciting time.”

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race will be showing on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with a matinee performance at 2pm, and an evening performance at 8pm from June 13 until June 29.

The shows will be held at The Mountview Theatre, 56 Smith Street, Macedon, with tickets going fast.
