LGBTIQA+ inclusion training in Macedon

Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health is partnering with Macedon Ranges Shire Council to host a workshop delivered by Proud2Play, focusing on LGBTIQA+ inclusion in sport and

recreation.

Rhani Dean-Talbett, Sunbury and Cobaw’s LGBTI health promotion officer said the workshop aims to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to

create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

“We know that sport creates a community and meaningful experiences for people whether they are involved as a player, club member, official or volunteer,” Ms Dean-Talbett said.

“Attending this workshop will help clubs contribute to a welcoming, and more inclusive sport and recreation community.”

“By normalising and celebrating diversity and inclusion in sports and recreation, participating clubs and facilities will be working towards a more sustainable future with broader

membership that reflects the diversity of the community they are located in.”

This free training for active and recreational clubs in Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges will cover working with LGBTIQA+ communities, using inclusive language and terminology and

LGBTIQA+ people’s experience of sport. It is recommended that at least two people from each club or facility attend to support the implementation of strategies learnt at the

workshop.

The Proud2Play workshop is on Tuesday 11 March, 7pm – 8.30pm at the Macedon Cricket Club.
