Songwriting competition on the way

School-aged children across Australia, including those in Sunbury and Macedon Ranges, will once again be able to participate in the Australian Children’s Music Foundation’s (ACMF) National Songwriting Competition.

For over 22 years, the National Songwriting Competition has been a platform to develop and drive the next generation of Australia’s music talent, as it is the largest youth songwriting competition in the country.

Held annually, the National Songwriting Competition is free to enter for all school-aged children, from Kindergarten to Year 12.

ACMF said this addresses the current inequity crisis around access to music and aligns with our belief that no child should be deprived of the life-changing benefits of music education.

The competition offers children the chance to showcase their skills and convey their thoughts and emotions through the power of music, performance, and songwriting. Now more than ever, children face unprecedented challenges in finding their voice and self-confidence.

ACMF said the aim is for the National Songwriting Competition to be a vehicle of opportunity for all school-aged children and a place for those challenges to be overcome.

This year, a new category has been included for the most inventive entry from a school group.

The prize, valued over $10,000, will be an APRA AMCOS Song Makers Program delivered at the school by industry professionals.

In total, there will be over $30,000 in prizes to be won that will go towards supporting their musical journey.

Judging will be held in October 2024 and will assess various aspects including the lyrics, melody, structure, and originality.

The winners will be announced in November 2024.
