Diggers Rest Primary School unites for harmony

Diggers Rest Primary School was recently a colourful spectacle as students paraded through the grounds wearing traditional attire from around the world.

The occasion was Harmony Day, which is an annual event celebrated across Australia and the school to promote inclusivity, respect, and a sense of belonging for all cultural backgrounds.

Italian teacher Melissa Legudi said she was honoured to be hosting this event again this year, as it is such an important day in the school calendar.

“We are proud to host such a wonderful celebration of diversity here at Diggers Rest Primary School,” she said.

“Events like Harmony Day remind us of the strength that comes from embracing our differences and standing together in unity.”

The school’s basketball court was transformed into a vibrant showcase of diversity, with students proudly displaying their heritage through their traditional dress.

From vibrant saris to intricate kimono and elegant dashikis, the parade was a testament to the rich tapestry of cultures within the school community.

Principal Sheridan Thomas expressed her delight at the enthusiasm shown by both students and staff in celebrating Harmony Day.

“It’s wonderful to see our school come together to celebrate the beauty of cultural diversity,” she said.

“Events like these not only foster a sense of belonging but also promote understanding and respect for different traditions.”

After the parade students participated in various cultural activities, from learning traditional dances to creating artwork inspired by global motifs, the day was filled with educational and enriching experiences.

Representatives from the Lions Club were also present to contribute to the lively atmosphere with their support and engagement.

For the celebration lunch, students and staff came together to share a meal and exchange stories. The aroma of diverse cuisines filled the air as everyone enjoyed a feast prepared with love and care.
