Malmsbury station fire

The Malmsbury Railway Station and adjacent Old Station Masters House caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, January 31, with 13 CFA units responding to the blaze.

A Country Fire Authority (CFA) spokesperson said the CFA units responded to a structure fire on Calder Highway in Malmsbury at around 5.30pm, alongside Fire Rescue Victoria.

“Trains were stopped before resuming at reduced speed [and] Powercor were called to assist,” they said.

“Units responded from Malmsbury, Taradale, Kyneton, Elphinstone, Woodend, Coliban and Campbells Creek.

“Crews discovered the Old Station Masters House adjacent to the station was on fire, with one room fully involved and fire in the roof space.”

The spokesperson said the incident was deemed under control at 6.34pm and deemed safe at 8.52pm.

The scene has now been handed to Victoria Police. An investigator will attend in the afternoon on Thursday, February 1.

A crime scene guard is currently in place.
