A local artist is inviting residents to attend her first free solo art exhibition, exploring connection to nature, and how COVID-19 triggered a personal change.
Lancefield artist Sharon Pappas is holding the exhibition at Double Oaks Winery in Lancefield from November 24 to 26. The exhibition will include oil paintings and Sharon’s journey connecting with the land.
“I grew up on a farm in Queensland… [and] during the pandemic when we all worked from home I was living in a small apartment and decided to move to Lancefield,” she said.
“When we moved out here I felt at peace and like I was back where I belong. Being back in the country ignited my desire to paint again.
“When I look back on the pandemic I’m going to think it was one of the best times in my life. I’m pretty unique and lucky, that pandemic experience for me had a lot of silver linings.”
Sharon said she started oil painting in March last year, and her work encourages viewers to explore their own interpretation.
“I came up with this new idea with the figures that blend into the environment… I’ve been really exploring it and I’m really proud.
“I don’t put faces on my figures… I find without a face the viewers can interpret it their own way. I don’t want to give more information, I want [the viewer] to fill in those gaps.
“Now that I’m older and I have this new determination to be the best I can be. I’m ready to have an exhibition… and show the world how much I’ve grown over the last year.”
Sharon will be doing demonstrations on the weekend, and said anyone who loves art should attend.
