Sunbury fishers are closer to reeling in a big catch with more rainbow trout stocked into Spavin Drive Lake.
Sunbury MP Josh Bull, Outdoor Recreation Minister Sonya Kilkenny and Veterans Minister Natalie Suleyman met at the lake on August 23 to each release trophy-sized trout weighing up to 5 kilograms.
Mr Bull said the prospect of landing one of these fish inspires even long-time fishing fanatics.
“These stockings offer budding fishers in Sunbury an experience they won’t soon forget, right here in our local area,” he said.
Recreational fishers across the state can expect to reel in more trout, Murray cod and golden perch with 26 million released in the last three years.
Fishing licences are now free for Victorian Veterans Card holders and Little Angler Kits are provided to the next generation in time for summer holidays.
The trout fishing season re-opens on Saturday, September 2.
Rainbow trout was stocked into 16 waterways including; Albert Park Lake, Berwick Springs Estate Lake, Casey Fields Lake, Caulfield Racecourse Lake, Don Lake (Healesville), Ferntree, Gully Quarry, Garfield Lake, Karkarook Lake (Moorabbin), Lilliput Lane Reserve (Pakenham), Lilydale Lake, Navan Park Lake (Melton), Pakenham Lake, Rowville Lakes (Sutton and Hill Lakes), Roxburgh Park Lakes and Yarrambat Lake.
