Travellers, including those in Sunbury and Macedon Ranges, can enjoy a new departure lounge at the Bendigo Airport, with works underway to deliver the terminal expansion.
Regional Development Minister Harriet Shing announced the completion of the first stage of the expansion on Wednesday, June 28. Ms Shing said the expansion will benefit travellers visiting regional Victoria.
“It’s great to see the Bendigo Airport terminal expansion nearing completion,” she said.
“This will deliver enormous benefits for the growing number of people travelling in and out of regional Victoria.”
Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards agreed and said the expansion will attract more visitors and generate more jobs.
“This upgrade is an excellent development for Bendigo, not only will it attract more visitors to the region, it will also generate jobs,” Ms Edwards said.
Airline staff are now operating from the new building with the departure lounge, cafe, screening area, restrooms, office space and equipment shed complete.
The new terminal is on track for completion in December and will be almost four times larger to deliver more space for thousands of additional passengers.
The old terminal building will be demolished in August and will pave the way for construction of the terminal building’s next area, which will feature an entry foyer, security screening, baggage check-in and baggage claim areas.
The airport will remain operational throughout the course of the works, and is creating up to 45 jobs during construction.
