Coates Talent League

Calder Cannons Rye Penny was one of the stars at the recent Coates Talent League Boys testing day ahead of the commencement of the 2023 season. Players from the 12 Victorian programs featured in a range of testing, which included the standing vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20m sprint, agility test and yo-yo test. Penny, whose local club is Gisborne, was a standout in the two jumping tests, producing 101cm on the running vertical jump and 86cm on the standing vertical jump. He also recorded the sixth-fastest result in the 20m sprint.

Ballarat FNL

The Ballarat Football Netball League will trial the introduction of a white card in 2023. The introduction of the card will be used to improve and enhance gameday behaviours and expectations for players, officials, volunteers and supporters. In conjunction with the Ballarat Football Umpires Association, the white card trial will allow three warnings to be provided for behaviours that do not meet expectations, each warning having various sanctions. The third white card will result in the head coach reported as there have been multiple instances of behaviour or actions that are not acceptable and have not been suitably addressed.

EDFL

The Sunbury Lions have appointed a new captain for the Essendon District Football League division 1 women’s season. Laura Giles will skipper the side, while Tara Quigley and Renee Whelan have been appointed vice-captains. Matt Tremellen and Jaimee-Lee Wilson are the co-coaches of the side this season.

Bowls

Club Sunbury finished off a strong season with two Bowls Victoria night pennant titles on Wednesday night. Club Sunbury made it three in a row in the division 1 competition beating Essendon by 17 shots. The division 2 team beat Moonee Valley by eight shots, while the division three side lost its grand final to Broadmeadows.
