Lancefield Junior Football Club are looking for girls aged 10-18 to join the club this season.

Club female football coordinator Jacqueline Green said they are thrilled to be back for their third Riddell District Football League season.

“Many of our players came to us at the beginning of our journey [in 2021], never having held a football and with limited knowledge of the game,” said Ms Green.

“We had around 15-18 girls previously, and this year we have around 25- 27, so our numbers are building.”

Green said they need a few more girls to make two teams and are looking to enter youth (under-18) and junior (under-15) teams. The club only had under-15 teams previously.

Lisa Borg, who has played nearly 200 games, will be the coach for the 2023 season, with a focus on player growth and development.

Pre-season training has started and girls aged 10-18 years old are encouraged to attend the sessions at Lancefield Oval on Mondays and Wednesdays 5.30pm- 6.30pm.

Since the introduction of the girls competition, the under-15 team had a finals campaign in 2022 and are creating a pathway for a senior women’s team in the future.
