Club Sunbury has sealed its finals spot in the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant division 1, section 1 with one round remaining.
An up and down few weeks left Club Sunbury needing to win at least one of its final two matches to make sure of a finals spot.
With a match up against the ladder leaders Lilydale in the final round, victory against Ivanhoe on Saturday was vital.
Despite halving the rinks, Club Sunbury came away with an 84 (14)-67 (4) win..
Marc Bullows’ rink was the big winner on the day, winning 36-13, while Mark Cowan’s rink won 18-16.
Sebastian Pretty’s rink lost 18-14 and Lee Wesley’s rink lost 20-16.
Club Sunbury’s David Glennon said it was a result that they needed.
“It now guarantees finals,” he said. “We don’t have to look over our shoulders.
“It’s still unknown whether we will get a home final or not.
Glennon said Bullows and Paul Callus, who was in Bullows’ rink, were the two standouts on Saturday.
Club Sunbury enters the final round in second spot, 13 points clear of Kingsbury in third spot.
Lilydale will finish top no matter the result in the final round.
Glennon said the side was keen to face Lilydale in the lead up to finals.
“It’ll be a tough game on Saturday, we’re looking forward to it,” he said.
“It might be a dress rehearsal for the following weekend. You always want to pet your wits against the top side.”
Club Sunbury had three sides in preliminary finals on Sunday.
The division 3, section 2 side defeated Bundoora RSL 3 in 96 (18)-54 (0).
The rink led by Clive Moffat was the big winner on the day, winning 31-12. Club Sunbury will face Lalor 2 in the grand final.
The division 6, section 3 side is also through to the grand final. Club Sunbury beat Rosanna 3, 79 (14)-76 (4).
It will face Epping RSL 2 in the grand final.
It was three from three on Sunday with Club Sunbury 5 beating Moonee Valley 4 99 (18)-54 (0) to win through to the division 7, section 2 grand final where they will face Essendon 5.
Meanwhile, in the Central Highlands Bowls Division top grade. Lancefield, Gisborne, Romsey and Kyneton Golf had wins in the final regular season game.
Romsey will play Lancefield in the first week of finals for a spot in the grand final, while Gisborne and Kyneton Golf will play in a knock out semi final.
