Sponsor a koala this festive season

The WWF, formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund,is asking Australians, including those in Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges, to give a gift that gives back and adopt a koala for someone they love.

By ‘adopting’ a koala, the WWF said donors help ensure wildlife carers and medical facilities can care for the sick, injured and vulnerable beloved Australian creatures, creating wildlife corridors, and protecting their forest homes long-term.

“From deadly disease to catastrophic wildfires, floods, and rampant deforestation – koalas have been hit from all angles,” WWF said.

“Now uplisted to ENDANGERED status along our east coast, they’re at a critical crossroad and urgently need your help. Without stronger protection, koala populations are on a very slippery slope towards extinction by 2050 in eastern Australia.”

WWF said there’s no time to lose.

“Adopting a koala today will help turn this tragedy around by protecting them against Chlamydia that’s decimating populations, upscaling the capacity of wildlife hospitals to ensure koalas can receive the care they need, and by protecting and restoring their forest homes,” WWF said.

WWF said every koala assisted helps “hundreds of other native species too”. By signing up to an on-going adoption, donors will also receive exclusive koala adoption updates throughout the year.
