Sunbury College assistant principal Wes Pfitzner said the school was delighted with their students’ VCE results released on Monday.
Thirty-five per cent of the year 12 cohort received Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) scores of 70 or above.
“This year is the first year we’ve had a huge growth in ATARs at the top end, we’ve been working really hard with our students over the last few years,” Mr Pfitzner said.
“They’ve done really well over COVID-19 to be able to overcome their challenges… which is a real positive for the Sunbury area.
“That sets up all those students to go onto successful tertiary pathways.”
Melissa Vang was Dux of the college with a score of 93.9 per cent, and subject Dux of chemistry, mathematical methods and physics. She was also awarded the Australian Defence Force innovators award for 2022.
In a Facebook post, the college said Ms Vang’s teachers described her as “eager to learn, curious, highly motivated and a student who takes every challenge in her stride”.
“Her dedication and commitment to all of her studies, including her STEM studies is abundantly clear to all and has resulted in her exceptional academic results. Sunbury College is incredibly proud of Melissa’s achievements,” the school said.
Mr Pfitzner said the school also had a very successful VCAL program, with 98 per cent of VCAL students either having received apprenticeships or traineeships, or are already working full time.
“We’re very proud of their achievements, particularly two of them: Hollee Moore and Neville Mansfield,” he said.
“[They] have both been offered a Diploma of Nursing at Victoria University, and both students were successful in receiving awards.”
