Man charged with alleged Woodend historical sexual offences

Police have charged a man with alleged historical sex offences dating back to the early 1980s.

Police said the 72-year-old Sunbury man, who previously resided in Woodend, was charged following a “lengthy investigation” into allegations made by five victims who were known to the man.

Police allege the offences occurred in Woodend between 1982 and 1988.

“The Sunbury man was charged with a total of 45 offences including gross indecency with a child under 16, indecent assault of a child under 16 and sexual penetration of a child under 10,” police said.

He was charged by police on Friday, November 4 and man faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, November 5, where he was remanded to appear at the same court on Monday, November 7.
