Club Sunbury made it two from two in the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant division 1, section 1 on Saturday,
While several games were cancelled due to heavy rain, Club Sunbury faced a new challenge as it headed to Armadale for the first time.
It was a successful trip, with Club Sunbury coming home with the points, 81 (16)-75 (2).
Club Sunbury’s David Glennon said they had to fight hard to come away with the win.
“We never hit the front until the 80th end,” he said. “Every rink picked up shots late in the piece to come away with the win.
“Lee Wesley’s rink picked up four shots on the final end. To go to unknown territory, in a new format and get 16 points on the road in division 1 is a good feat.”
Lee Wesley’s rink won 21-13, while Mark Cowan’s rink won 26-18. Marc Bullows’ rink won 18-17 on the final end.
Ray Pretty’s rink was the losing rink, losing 27-16.
Glennon said synthetic green at Armadale ran really well, with a number of Club Sunbury players putting out standout performances.
He said Josh Leszczynski, Bullows and Bailey Moffat were the three standout performers in the win.
The win means Club Sunbury is one of two undefeated teams after two rounds. With a match at home this week against Kingsbury, Glennon said they have a good opportunity to set their season up.
Only three Club Sunbury sides played on Saturday, with three of their lower grade sides washed out.
The second side lost to 79 (16)-76 (2), while the third side was away at Keilor, losing 82 (4)-68 (4).
Three of the club’s four mid-week side’s also had wins last week.
