GDCA washed out again

The wait and see game of when the season will start continues in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association with games again called off on Saturday.

For the third straight week there was no play in any of the senior grades, leaving many players and officials frustrated on the side lines.

Unlike the first two weeks when play was called off during the week due to not enough grounds being playable, there had been some hope of play on Saturday.

That ended with heavy rain on Friday night and Saturday, with games called off on Saturday morning.

All three matches that have been called off have been one-dayers. Another one-dayer is scheduled for this Saturday for the top two grades.

The other grades have a bye due to the Melbourne Cup weekend.

It was better news for some of the junior competitions, with play getting underway during last week.

Sunbury was also left on the side lines in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association on Saturday.

The VTCA cancelled all games by the first XI matches during the week due to not enough grounds being playable.

The remaining matches got cancelled on Saturday morning, including Sunbury’s match against Williamstown Imperials.

It’s the fourth straight week play has been called off in that competition.
